Thunder Tour a Success in West Texas
The Thunder Tour covered 1300 miles in 4 days with stops in Wichita Falls, Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, Abilene and San Angelo. Our crew consisted of Chris Pilcic of State Farm (ICT Communications Committee chair) and myself with assistance along the way from State Farm agents in Amarillo, Lubbock, Abilene and San Angelo and independent agent Eric Watson with CBS Insurance Agency in Abilene. Our crew visited 25 newspaper, radio and TV stations with the message of how to handle their next homeowner insurance claim and what to watch out for. Our biggest success was an editorial in the Amarillo Globe supporting our hail litigation effort (see editorial) . Our most memorable appearance was hearing a morning radio talk show host in Midland saying insurance companies were raising rates 60% for drivers involved in traffic mishaps. Chris and I managed to get into the station at 7 a.m. and work our way to the on-air staff startling the announcer, saying “you wanted to hear from some insurance experts, here we are.” Within minutes, we were on the air and had the opportunity to refute what had been said and set the record straight.
