The new year brings a renewed commitment to making good decisions. Whether it’s healthy choices, financial planning, more family time – all those resolutions protect your loved ones. Consider one more resolution – check your insurance coverage today. What’s covered? Do I need less or more insurance? Here are some tips to having a good conversation with your agent.
- Do you have comprehensive insurance which covers for damage caused risks including hail, falling objects, flood, vandalism?
- Do you have gap, rental car coverage or roadside assistance? Some customers may not need this coverage if they have an older model car or a separate membership service.
- Is your liability coverage enough to protect you for damages you may cause?
- What’s your deductible? Can you afford to increase it?
Home insurance provided coverage for the structure, personal property and often additional living expenses.
- What does your policy cover? Do you have enough coverage if you have a total loss? Ask about limits, exclusions and deductible.
- Some policies cover depreciated value of your home and/or personal property – other policies cover for the cost to replace these items. Understanding what you have can help in budgeting; don’t wait until you have a loss to find out!
- Are there other coverage or “endorsements” included in your policy? Ask now about what those policies are to see if you need the coverage.
- Working from home means I have company equipment onsite – what’s covered?
Renters insurance provides coverage for your personal property and sometimes additional living expenses for some losses. Don’t forget, your landlord is responsible for the structure – not your personal property.
Ready to save money? Consider the following:
- Raising your deductible usually results in reduced premiums.
- Ask about discounts including multi-policy, good student, good driver, safer cars, newer home, home and auto security systems.
- Ask about vehicle devices or software that track your driving habits. Tracking your good driving behaviors can help reduce your rates.
- Review coverages and endorsements – do you need them all or has your situation changed?
- What’s covered and what’s not covered? Ask “what if” questions to help determine if you are over or under insured.
- What if my car is damaged by hail or stolen?
- What if a pipe breaks in my home?
- What if flood water enters my home?
- Compare coverages. Use www.Helpinsure.com a site supported by the Texas Department of Insurance and the Office of Public Insurance Counsel which allows you to compare rates.
