2021 Texas Winter Storm: Results

On February 26th, in response to the 2021 Texas Winter Storm, TDI issued a brief data survey to a group of companies representing the majority of the market. The purpose of the survey was to collect preliminary claims data on the storm. The affected companies were required to begin reporting certain claims and loss information to TDI beginning March 12th and then weekly thereafter.
On April 12th, TDI released their first report on winter storm survey data. TDI’s information was for data collected through March 26. The results were based on information from 85% of the Texas property market and 94% of the Texas auto market.


Here are some of the latest highlights.

  • Losses paid- $2.6445B
  • Case-incurred losses $4.78B
  • Avg paid loss $11,806
  • Claims paid 224,005 (55.4% paid)
  • Reported claims 404,701
  • 88.9% of claims paid are residential (87.7% of those reported are residential)
