ICT Provides $31,000 in Scholarships to Students

The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) Education Foundation recently honored 20 university students studying insurance and risk management with $31,000 in scholarships.   Since 2002, ICT has awarded scholarships and other education funding totaling approximately $1.1 million to over 530 students at 12 Texas universities.

“Insurance companies seeking above average job applicants continue to turn toward ICT’s scholarship recipients because of their extensive insurance knowledge,” said Tony Gonzalez, president of the ICT Education Foundation.  “We’re proud to point out that more than half of our scholarship recipients have found jobs in the property and casualty industry.”

Funds for ICT’s scholarship program come from individual and company donations as well as ICT’s Annual Property and Casualty Symposium sponsorships. The 2019 Symposium is scheduled for July 11-12, at the Hyatt Regency Austin.

ICT scholarship recipients at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, taught by Dr. David Sommer, were Bianca Hernandez, Rudy Martinez, Steven Ruiz, Tina Valdez and Samantha Shelton.

ICT scholarships recipients at Baylor University, in classes taught by Dr. Jim Garven and Professor Paul Anderson, were Sam Bode, Savannah Bass, Nathan Preston, Ryan Hebdon, Heather Hansen, Madeline Dixon, David Bennett and Maggie McBride.

ICT scholarship recipients at the University of North Texas, in classes taught by Professor Dale Sharpe-Jenkins and Dr. Jianren Xu, were Geoffrey Ingram, Emily Ruggiero, Schuyler Holder, Travis Clouser and Gloria Echun.

ICT scholarship recipients at Texas Southern University, in classes taught by Dr. Felix Ayadi, were Brandon Solomon and Roderick Rogers.

ICT invites each scholarship recipients to attend ICT’s Symposium in Austin where industry leaders gather to hear updates on the latest trends and issues in the property and casualty insurance marketplace.  Students also have the opportunity to participate in ICT’s annual speed interview and network session.   Each year, almost two dozen insurance companies and agencies interview ICT scholarship recipients for jobs in the insurance industry.
